General Installation Steps
The following steps apply to all Z20 series models. We recommend watching the corresponding model video above before starting.
Turn Off Vehicle Power
Ensure the engine is off, the key is removed, and the headlight switch is in the OFF position. Allow the headlight assembly to cool to room temperature to avoid burns.
💡 Work in a well-ventilated indoor area or shaded locationOpen the Hood & Locate the Headlight Assembly
Open the hood and locate the rear cover of the headlight assembly you need to replace. Twist the dust cover counterclockwise to remove it, exposing the stock halogen bulb and connector.
💡 Rear cover removal varies by vehicle — consult your owner's manualRemove the Stock Halogen Bulb
First, disconnect the power plug from the bulb. Then, depending on the retention method (spring clip or retaining ring), release the fastener and carefully pull out the stock halogen bulb. Avoid touching the glass portion.
Install the Fahren Z20 LED Bulb
Insert the Z20 LED bulb into the socket in the same orientation as the stock bulb, ensuring the alignment tabs are correctly seated. Secure the spring clip or retaining ring to lock the bulb in place. The Z20's 1:1 size design fits perfectly with no modifications.
💡 The 9012 model features a 360° adjustable locker ring for beam direction fine-tuningConnect Power & Route the Wiring
Plug the LED bulb's built-in driver connector into the stock power socket — you'll hear a "click" when it's fully seated. Secure any excess wiring with zip ties, ensuring it does not contact hot engine components or moving parts.
Reinstall Dust Cover & Test
Reinstall the headlight dust cover (if space permits). Start the vehicle and turn on the headlights to verify operation. Confirm that high/low beam switching works normally, with no flickering and no dashboard error codes. Finally, check the beam direction and adjust the headlight height screw if necessary.
💡 If flickering or dashboard errors occur, a CANBUS decoder may be requiredInstallation Precautions
Please read the following precautions carefully to ensure safe installation and optimal performance.
Disconnect Power
Always turn off all vehicle power before installation. Never plug or unplug bulb connectors while the power is on, as this may cause a short circuit or damage the vehicle's electrical system.
Allow to Cool
Headlight assemblies reach extremely high temperatures during use. Wait at least 15 minutes for them to cool completely before handling to avoid burns.
Wear Gloves
Gloves are recommended during installation. Avoid touching the LED chip surface with bare hands, as skin oils can affect heat dissipation and light output.
Do Not Force Fit
The Z20 series is designed for 1:1 plug-and-play. If you encounter resistance, do not force the bulb — check that the model matches and the alignment tabs are properly seated.
CANBUS Compatibility
Most vehicles are install-and-go. A few sensitive models (certain Ford, Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, etc.) may require an additional CANBUS decoder for proper operation.
Beam Alignment
After installation, verify the beam angle. The 9012 model's 360° adjustable locker ring allows fine-tuning to ensure a standard beam pattern with no glare to oncoming traffic.
